TwistedElegance™
Congrats to both. Now, does this give Nicki a record? The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill is considered the highest selling first week sales for a female rap album, but as we know there are several songs on it which don't feature any rapping. Nicki also sings on her album, but the bulk of every song includes her rapping.

TwistedElegance™
So Lauryn sold more? Yes, over 400,000. No other female rap album has surpassed 300k the first week.
Aquaria
Yes, over 400,000. No other female rap album has surpassed 300k the first week. Oh I get what you're saying though. Congrats to Nicki
cnd
It's great to see each album in the top 10 sell over 100k.
bzebabe
as I said in the Nicki thread...give credit where credit is due...even though I don't fuck with her album, congrats to her moving great numbers in her first week...I really hope she doesn't have a huge drop off in sales in her 2nd week tho

LyricalLesson
Unfortunately, Bzebabe, she WILL. And so will Kanye. Not trying to take away from the joy of this big sales week...but you all do realize that almost every artist in the top 50 benefitted from the Biggest shopping days of the year "Black Weekend"...had Nicki released her album a few weeks ago, she wouldn't have sold as much. And she definitely won't come close to this amount next week. She more than likely won't even do half. That weekend is the time to buy gifts, indulge in gifts for the self, and buy things that catch your eye while shopping for other things. This is an excellent time of the year to release an album. See Mary J. Blige's album release history, she's smashed with big first week sales on a couple of albums around this time of year. It's VERY smart. Having said all of that, congrats to her. That's a nice number of albums to sell

LyricalLesson
that's why she chose it, she's very business savvy Well I don't think she chose it...but kudos to her record label for an extremely business savvy decision. I've been saying it for years, I don't understand why more people don't release their albums around the holidays. I remember when Mary J, and Jamie Foxx both released their albums ("The Breakthrough" and "Unpredictable" respectively) around this time. Mary sold 730,000 and Jamie sold 597,000...they held the top 2 positions, swapping back and forth through the holidays and for several weeks, going platinum VERY quickly. It was great to see, as I'm a fan of both. From then on, I saw the power of releasing your album at this time.

TwistedElegance™
Anywho, congrats to Nicki for besting the haters' first week sales. That's an achievement in today's market. Same goes to Kanye; no hit single, no heavy promo, and he still came out on top.
